White Plains 1809-2009 Historical
Original Land Grants

The Jackson County, Tennessee map of 1836 (see Map 2 on the Historical Page)
indicates that White Plains was located on Walton's Road at the juncture
of three counties: Jackson, White, and Overton.  A post office was established
there by 1811.  The first White Plains postmaster was Daniel Alexander.

The following two images are of copies of original Tennessee State Land Grants
Nos. 559 and 560.  They were made to Daniel Alexander, assignee for
Hardy Hardison of North Carolina.  Both are located on Walton's Road at the
juncture of Jackson, White, and Overton Counties.

In 1854, when Putnam County was established, it contained the area of
White Plains.  This area is located about one and 1/2 miles south of
Algood, Tennessee.  (Images courtesy of Charlene McClain)
